Season's Greetings from IDF

Message from Dr Petra Wilson, IDF CEO & the Executive Office

Dear friends,

The turn of the year gives us all the opportunity to pause for reflection and look back on the achievements of the past twelve months, before steeling ourselves to take on the challenges of another year.

As the latest IDF Diabetes Atlas data has shown, the diabetes epidemic is relentless and we must brace ourselves for the work ahead, however let us not forget that this year has brought greater visibility to the diabetes cause and this momentum must be taken forward into 2014.

Now in its 23rd year, World Diabetes Day was celebrated on November 14 across our seven regions with enthusiasm unabated. This day, which marks the birthday of insulin discoverer, Sir Frederick Banting, remains IDF’s most valuable campaign for raising diabetes awareness, reaching new communities and gathering supporters in ever-greater numbers.

The World Diabetes Congress held in Melbourne earlier this month was spectacular. It was a genuinely global meeting with over 10,300 participants from 140 nations, bringing home the reality of diabetes to the Western Pacific region.

On behalf of the IDF Executive Office, I would like to extend a warm thank you to the diabetes community for their outstanding support throughout the year. IDF’s strength and standing today are the fruits of your great efforts.

Wherever this message finds you, I hope you will take a moment to join me in a toast to IDF’s past and future. In 2014 and beyond, may our work as a community reach even more people touched by diabetes and continue to make changes for a healthier future for everyone.

Season’s greetings to you all.

Dr Petra Wilson, CEO & the IDF Executive Office
