The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) is an alliance of over 240 national diabetes associations with two million members in more than 165 countries and territories. It is committed to raising global awareness of diabetes, building the evidence of the impact of diabetes, and providing tools for people with diabetes and health professionals.

IDF is looking for a full-time Communications Assistant for its Executive Office in Brussels, Belgium, starting in September 2019. 

Purpose of role

The IDF Communications team is responsible for promoting the activities of the Federation and strengthening IDF's presence on the global stage through global awareness initiatives and campaigns such as World Diabetes Day.

The Communications team is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to support the development of IDF communication activities, and help manage IDF online platforms and social media channels.

Key responsibilities and activities

  • Support management of IDF’s social media pages (drafting and publishing posts) and provide input into social media strategy
  • Support communications activities for the IDF Congress, World Diabetes Day and Diabetes Atlas initiatives (production of materials, stakeholder outreach, event coordination)
  • Support IDF communications activities for other IDF projects and campaigns (developing and laying out visuals and reports)
  • Support content management of IDF online platforms (updates and postings)
  • Support media monitoring and outreach
  • Support production and distribution of communications materials to key stakeholders
  • Help manage external communications enquiries
  • Provide further support as required to the Communications Manager and other IDF departments.


  • Excellent verbal and written skills in English; native speaker is an asset
  • Good working knowledge of French and/or Spanish
  • Knowledge of graphic design software (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Have fast word-processing skills and good command of Microsoft Office
  • Be proactive, flexible and a good communicator
  • Have excellent organizational, creative and team working skills
  • Good writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to work in multicultural and international environment
